Guys, I’m scared.
No, not just because of this mess.
I signed up for the One Room Challenge this fall. For those of you that aren’t “hip” to the design blog community, this basically means we have 6 weeks to complete the entire refresh of this space. I do like a good challenge, but if you know anything about our little DIY blog, you know we have not been the greatest at actually completing projects on time since our kids have entered the scene.
So, I’m scared.
I suppose a mostly finished laundry room is better than a not done at all laundry room, so there is a bright side I guess. Although a halfway done and not usable laundry room is worse that a not started and still usable laundry room…so there is also a dark side! We might end up wearing the same clothes several days in a row if we’re without a washer and dryer for too long. Yikes!
What does this mean for you? Well, two things.
- It means I’ll have some fun laundry room projects to share over the next six weeks.
- It means I will hopefully use this project to get back into my blogging groove now that we’re settling into our fall routine with school and I’m finally making at least a little dent in my ever-growing work to-do lists.
For reference, this is what it looked like last year:
Basically, the same…but not as bad. The little cabinet is so full now I’ve given up on keeping the doors closed. And I decided to use the hanging rod (which we NEVER use for clothes) to hold random coolers and stuff that I used to keep on the top. Wyatt kept getting annoyed at not being able to reach them, and I was annoyed that I always scraped the ceiling a little bit when getting things off or on the ledge, which meant popcorn rained down on us. (Yes, this room still has popcorn. Don’t mention it too much. I don’t know if we’re planning to remove it right now.)
I did add this little shelf set (that we got for free from a friend) to this corner to hold some overflow stuff from the cabinet, but most of the items we have are too tall to fit there, so it’s mostly holding Will’s beans that he plays with.
And don’t even get me started about the disaster of random clutter mixed with things we actually use all the time (bugspray, sunscreen, and fly swatters) behind the door. I hung this shoe organizer up when we moved in because I needed a place to put it and just haven’t moved it since then. Yikes.
Clearly we need some storage solutions in this room.
And hopefully a little bit of style.
Here’s what it looked like when we did our “phase one” update and painted the walls and “styled” it a bit. (Insert me rolling my eyes, here.)
And here’s what it looked like when we bought it:
So, now that we’ve been through that little trip down memory lane, I think we can agree that we need some help in this room!
I have a pinterest board full of ideas that need to be narrowed down and I need to get everything cleaned out of here so we can get started. Thanks for following along with me and make sure you’re following along with us on instagram to see all the craziness in my stories and posts there.
Here we go!
Who wants to vote if we actually get this done in the 6 weeks we have to complete the challenge?
