Well, it’s been a week and we don’t have a lot to show for ourselves yet. Unfortunately, we are slow workers and had a lot of prep work that needed to be be completed before we could do any of the fun stuff.

So, you want to see our big progress shot for the week? Here it is!

empty room ready for ceiling

Pretty spectacular, right?

Ha!

You can see we removed the cabinets and shelves. That’s something I guess. And we have the ceiling ready to scrape, which will hopefully be happening tonight.

Then we need to mud the ceiling and sand the ceiling and paint the ceiling. Then we paint the walls and the real fun starts.

We’ve decided we’re going to try to build a small little cabinet for between the washer and dryer, as well as adding in new Ikea cabinets all the way across the top, and maybe, MAYBE a wood slab backsplash. We’re also planning a pretty fun accent on the back wall, which you can’t see unless you’re inside the room.

I guess I can also give you this reveal shot for the week:

washer in kitchenOoof.

Nothing like a washer in your kitchen to make a space look uncluttered and spacious and tidy, right? So, for now, I’ll just be over here repeating my mantra over and and over. “It gets worse before it gets better.”

Now, I’m going to get back to deciding which light fixture to try for this space. I want something that will sort of blend into the ceiling so we don’t have too much contrast, but I also want to be able to have a little bit more style than we had before, which was just a fluorescent fixture.

Any favorite places to get lights I need to check?
