I’m excited to share a little mid-century kitchen makeover today. This update actually happened awhile ago so if you know us in real life, it won’t be news to you…but I’m still excited to share it.

We had been wanting new dining table chairs for awhile because our old mismatched and painted secondhand finds were showing some wear. The paint had chipped off of some, and there were a few small stains on the upholstered cushions.

As a reminder, here is the before:

Wyatt had mentioned he liked these molded plastic chairs at some point and since he doesn’t have a ton of home decor opinions, I try to at least consider his preferences when he shares them. Plus, I actually really like this style of chair, too. So, win-win.

They are super light, super clean and bright, and have a mid-century vibe without being too stylized…or expensive. Plus, I really like how sculptural the legs are.

In fact, these were super-duper affordable. We ordered them from Amazon, and there are a bunch of choices in various price points. We went with THESE. (affiliate link) Here’s another similar (cheaper right now!) option.

I actually had these in my cart around Christmastime but just saved them until later and kept getting notifications they were dropping or raising in price. I really wanted to buy them, but made myself wait until we had actually sold almost all of our other chairs first. Which did mean we had no chairs for a week or so. But, we managed. And it helped our goal to start following a one-in, one-out rule on purchases. When we ordered them, they were only $79.99, but they are often right around $100. For four chairs, that’s a really affordable price!

Wyatt did have to assemble them, but it wasn’t too big of a job.

I was concerned at first that Will’s booster seat wouldn’t work very well with it, but it actually works just fine. And I love how scrubbable these are. Normally, I can get them looking new again with just a rag and some soapy and water, but a magic eraser is my back up secret weapon if needed.

We ordered a set of two similar chairs with arms to use as well. And one of these came damaged a little bit, but after going back and forth with customer service, they sent us a new set to replace it, so I am really happy with these too. Here’s the link for those.

They are a bit more expensive, but still reasonable since you get two chairs for around $75. Again, the price seems to fluctuate up and down a bit. (But,  here’s a listing for 4 chairs that’s even cheaper right now! So be sure to check both!)

I will say that because they are so lightweight, if you lean forward in them too much and get off balance, they can slide on the floor and tip over. It’s happened to Will a few times when he tries to stand up or kneel on them and lean over to reach something on the table. So, we’re working on teaching him to not do that. I mean, we’re always teaching him things not to do at the table, like put his feet on his sister’s food tray, or spit out things he doesn’t like, or slide his plate away from him when he is done, or setting his half eaten sandwiches on the table instead of his plate. Manners. Ha. They don’t grow on trees I guess.

I know some people say these chairs are too trendy and we might wish we hadn’t gotten them, but again, if Wyatt liked them, and I liked them, and they were affordable, then why not, right?
