Today’s post is a little different in that it doesn’t take place within the four walls of our own home. I spent some time with my parents this week and was able to take a few shots of the awesome entryway coat hanger they made.

They live in a 100-year-old farmhouse, and they’ve been working on updating various parts and pieces and rooms since they moved in when they first got married. Recently, they took on refinishing all the old panel doors on the upstairs level. With that came replacing the knobs and hardware, but since they love preserving the character of the traditional fixtures, they saved everything in hopes of using them for something someday.

Enter the problem: with a small coat closet that’s already packed full with coats, a big filing cabinet, and other random things, as well as two married children who often visit at the same time, there’s not a lot of room for purses and scarves and coats. Usually, we (the visiting children) just pile everything up by the door…not such a great solution.

Luckily my parents are both creative and talented, so pretty soon, they had the idea to use the leftover door knobs, as well as a few from antique shops, as well as a a section of an unused, salvaged panel door, to make a custom coat hanging station.

It’s pretty awesome, huh?

I love the traditional look, with so much character from the old door knobs.

Plus, it’s super functional with plenty of room for all of our stuff when we visit. (No more piles on the floor!) Or even their stuff when they don’t want to hang it up in the closet.

Plus, it just looks pretty cool. We’re big on reusing old stuff in our family to show it some love. This piece does that perfectly.

What do you think? Do you have an awesome piece in someone else’s house that fills you with inspiration and appreciation? We think they did an awesome job with this, for sure!
