So, if you follow me over on Instagram (you should!), you’ll probably know I recently sold my big bedroom dresser.

When we moved into this house, we purchased a matching set with a huge chest for Wyatt and a huge dresser for me. At first, they were perfect for us (you can read the embarrassingly cheesy post HERE), but in my journey to simplify my wardrobe, I have gotten rid of over 100 pieces of clothing, and most of my drawers in this huge dresser were empty.

I did still have clothing in three drawers, and we actually had a 6 drawer dresser in the basement that was from the same childhood set as the small chest in our closet. So, a little measuring and some heavy lifting to get the old dresser up the stairs, then one final rearranging to get all the clothes in the new (actually super old) white 6-drawer dresser in the closet, and my big dresser was finally totally empty.

So, I listed it on Facebook marketplace and was pretty worried at first about what price I’d be able to get for it since I hadn’t seen any nice dressers selling really. Most dressers were selling for only about $100. And that was NOT what I was hoping to get for this one. But, I did my research and took some well-lit and well-staged photos, and ta-da! I got my asking price on the second day! We also sold the mirror that was hanging over it for MORE than what I was asking–yep!

So, I put together a little checklist of tips to help you get the most money for your listings, too, and I’ll be sharing that next week.

Oh, and I’m sharing what we replaced the dresser with on that wall. A new leaner mirror that’s bigger, and black, and a lot more modern with super clean lines.

I searched online for several days and almost everything I liked was from West Elm or Cb2 and about $400 or $600.

Um…no. I mean, I wish. But, no.

Finally, I decided on this one from Target. And yes, it does come in silver. It was bigger than the one I liked on Amazon (THIS ONE) but a lot cheaper (almost half the price since it was on sale for 15% off when I ordered), and it was in stock at our local Target so I could pick it up that day and not have to worry about it arriving damaged like several of the reviews said.

But, I really wanted black, so it got a coat of spray paint, and ta-da! A new bigger, cheaper, mirror!

I will say that Ikea has a really awesome looking mirror that several bloggers I follow own and like, and bonus-it’s even a little bigger than this one.  I might eventually upgrade to that one, but again, it’s closer to that $150 price point and also only comes in silver, so I’d have to paint it too. And really, this one is big enough. The Ikea one would still not be as tall as the doors, so I’m not sure it would help the wall that looks a little bare. And even though this mirror is big in person (it’s almost 70 inches tall), it looks small here with the two doors that are taller.

I think it will help to get the holes patched from where the old mirror was hanging, and maybe add some other wall art, like a framed painting on either side? Or a hanging plant? Or what I’d really like to do is a sort of accent wall with wood trim (something like this).

In the end, I’m super pleased I was able to sell our mirror for $60 and get this one for only $80. Plus, we sold the dresser for $330, so that comes out to a profit of over $300, and a bedroom that makes me feel so much more FREE!

Here are the three mirrors I was deciding between again, in case you’re in the market for one, too. You can tell they are all pretty similar. But they are listed in here in order of size, smallest to biggest. (Price is highest, lowest middle.)

And here’s how our bedroom is looking now that that wall (and my wardrobe!) is a lot more simplified.

I know it seems silly, but the whole room makes me feel lighter. And even though I’ve actually never seen this movie or even really like Will Farrell comedy that much (I know, I’m weird), I keep saying this in my head and to Wyatt which makes him laugh, and maybe even helped convince him it was a good idea to sell the dresser. Ha! Totally kidding. 😉🤭

Well, what do you think? Do you think I’m crazy for getting rid of my big, nice dresser? I know a lot of people thought I should keep it!
