I have some bad news to share, you all. Most of my seedlings are dying.

Sick seedlings

I’m not really sure what’s wrong with them, but I’m guessing it has something to do with it being super wet and cold outside still. Thus, my seedlings are still in their tiny seed starter containers and not happy in the ground as they should be.

Bummer.

I’ve had such a fun time watching them every day, as seen these seed updates, here, here, here and here, and now I’m having to say goodbye to quite a few of them. All my peas are gone already.

Sadness.

On Sunday, I replanted several of them into bigger pots in hopes of saving them. Some, as in a very small minority, seem to have made the transition fairly well. Here’s how the watermelon are fairing:

Others…not so much.

Just look at those wilted zucchinis!

Anyway, I’m pulling myself together over here and sucking up my sadness to remember that April showers bring May flowers, and hopefully summer veggies, right? Plus, I’m learning a lot about seeds, I guess. And learning that I can’t expect too much…and that it’s a good thing stores sell vegetable starts as well as seeds!

How are things in your neck of the woods? Rainy and storming like we’re seeing here? Sunny and warm? Snowy?? Any of you having any seed sadness to go along with my hard times? Let’s hear it!

  • That brings back memories from when I did homeschool Biology. My mom had me plant lots of fun plants and we built a light warmer thing and everything. Apparently they got too much moisture or something? We couldn’t figure it out but they all died. It was so sad. 🙁
It brought on some interesting papers to write to explain the possibilities of what happened. So at least you don’t have to do it for school or anything! 😉 What a bummer though. I bet it’s because you had to wait off this long winter that decided to take over in spring!

  • I can relate completely! The weather here in upstate NY has been very UN-spring like so I couldn’t get my outside garden ready. Hopefully I will be doing it this weekend. This is my first year trying to grow veggies so I don’t really know what I’m doing, I’m just crossing my fingers some of them make it through!
