Well, Emma is now almost 6 months old. What?

I mean, I can’t. She was just born. We’re still in the blurry after-baby days where you can’t quite remember what day it is and everything feels a bit like a joy-filled survival mode. Right?

But, nope. I guess not.

So, here we are, at the point of having been a family of four for almost half of a year. So, even though her room is not completely done, I think it’s time to go ahead and share what it looks like in these early months, because I’m sure it will continue to evolve as she grows and we find time for a few remaining projects.

From the beginning of the pregnancy, I knew I wanted a black and white nursery, with touches of copper. And that’s pretty much where we ended up.

Black and White Nursery Theme

Her side table was the first thing I purchased for the room, way back when all I had was a mood board and morning sickness.

I guess, to be fair, the glider was the first thing we purchased because it was reused from Will’s room. You can read more about our nursery chair saga, HERE. And you can find it here.

And I also really like the ottoman pouf I got from Overstock. It’s now out of stock there, but I found it on Amazon for you so here’s an affiliate link for the Letter Ottoman Pouf in black. I think it’s playful but also doesn’t scream KID ROOM. It would be cute in a library, den, or game room, too,  and you all know I love a library.

Speaking of library, her little bookshelves are a sort of temporary solution to this wall. Originally, I wanted book ledges like we have in Will’s room.  But, we didn’t get them built, and I was tired of the room looking so bar (there was nothing at all on that side of the room) so I grabbed these from our basement storage room.

They were made by my great grandfather at some point and were sort of a cherry wood tone (super damaged, scuffed, and scratched) so I gave them a coat of glossy black spraypaint and I love out sculptural they are in here!

Target came through on the sheets with the perfect ones. The print is so sweet and you all know I love some good word art elements.

Black and White Nursery Bedding

We have the copper accents throughout the room as well, the copper hex knobs on the dresser were a bit of a splurge, but I love the little detail they add.

Black and White Nursery Ikea Hamper

The wall above her dresser has some baskets (spray painted with copper spray paint) to hold diapers. And we sprayed some cheap Ikea shelf brackets copper too and added a black shelf. I am not 100% happy with the styling on her shelf, but it’s working for us right now. I’m sure I’ll be switching it up as she gets older and gets more of her own “stuff” up there. I already added a lot more pink than I was planning on.

And yes, the geometric air plant holders I made from straws finally have a home. Emma loves looking at them while getting her changed or dresses. I like how sculptural they are, with some natural elements added to the room that Will can’t spill the dirt out of. Ha!

OIt’s still not what I’d consider a pink room at all. But, I didn’t expect to ever have much pink in my house, but after having a little girl, I find myself more and more drawn to it.

The print on the wall is special, too. We found it in a little shop in Kentucky that sold a lot of local products and featured local artists while there with friends for a wedding. I loved the corn field out the window because it reminded me of the kitchen in my childhood home, and the sweet reminder that where our treasure is, there our heart will be also.

Interestingly enough, I bought this for our first child’s nursery who wasn’t even conceived yet in a season when we were dealing with infertility but never ended up finding a place for it in Will’s nursery when the time came. And it ended up being perfect for our second child’s room with her black and white nursery.

Black and White Nursery Crib and Art

I used a wooden hanger from our closet to hang it. And to add another little touch of copper, I taped off the wood, and spray painted the metal hook with copper spray paint.

I’m still looking for more small details to add to the shelves and the walls, but we have collected some sweet black and white finishing touches, too, like Emma’s sweet quilt, made by Grandma Donita. I love the plus sign motif so much. It’s kind of a symbol for our family and perfect for our sweet second babe.

Black and White Nursery Blanket Basket

Even though it isn’t totally finished, I do love this room. And it turned out pretty close to what I had in mind. I’d love to have a black crib skirt, and may still get that done. But, I also like that even though this nursery sort of had a “theme,” it doesn’t look overly theme-y, if that makes sense.

Black and White Nursery Inspiration

One of the biggest design features in the room is the scripture hanging over the crib. I designed it and had it printed as a large scale engineer print at Staples. Then, Wyatt built a simple frame for it. (We basically did what we did in the kitchen, HERE.)

I love this verse in here. It’s a beautiful reminder that God is sovereign over our family, no matter how much planning we do. While we struggled with infertility issues before conceiving Will, Emma came along quite a bit easier than we expected. And she had brought with her a lot of questions. Will she be our last baby? I still don’t know the answer to that, but I trust God will continue to perfectly and beautifully shape our family.

Plus, it turned out to be perfect piece for our beautiful girl’s room.

We’ve actually made a few small changes even since taking these photos, so I already need an update for this post. But in the meantime, tell me your best ideas for some other little black and white accents to add to the space to really finish it off!
