The basement bathroom is almost finished and before we finalize everything we’ve been working on, I wanted to share some of the inspiration that led to the design plan for our $200 bathroom upgrade.

Yep, we had a very small budget for this room and big goals.

Here’s where we were starting from.

Goals:

  1. Change the dingy brown floor. This one is not our style, not very fun, and not very new or clean.
  2. Paint and repair the vanity. The veneer is peeling off in a couple places, and the golden oak is not our favorite.
  3. Replace the broken faucet.
  4. Get a new light that actually has shades (not bare bulbs)
  5. Change the mirror and add accessories that match our target style.

Proposed budget:

  1. Flooring – $50
  2. Paint – $25
  3. Faucet – $25
  4. Lighting – $50
  5. Mirror – $35
  6. Accessories – $15

And here is the plan.

Sources:

  1. Bamboo flower pot
  2. Black Faucet on our black (painted) vanity
  3. Round mirror with black frame
  4. Blue toilet (Ours is vintage!)
  5. Black vanity light
  6. Bamboo Shelf – Target
  7. Vinyl stick-on tile
  8. Black and bamboo trash can

Like I said, our budget for this project is only $200, so we’re 100% considering this a “temporary” or “phase 1” style of makeover. We considered doing more, but honesty, we think just having a little face lift for this room will make a big difference, and…we are spending our budget on other things this year.

(You can see our full list of 2020 Home Goals, here.)

Not to mention that Wyatt is still really pulling to add another shower in this bathroom, but I just am not ready for that type of renovation because we’d be looking at major plumbing and electrical work, and probably moving a wall, in order to do that!

I do wish the budget included a new toilet and vanity because let’s face it, we can only do so much with these, but so far, things are looking really pretty good in there! My plan with the design was to go as basic and classic as possible to make the toilet and counter (both a dusty sort of gray blue) look more intentional, almost as an accent. Do you think that will work? Or will it make them look crazier than if I tried to blend them in?

(Sidenote, did you see when we blended them in?? Click here to see more about that fun little experiment!)

Anyway, I’m excited to share where we ended up with this room soon! Thanks for following along!

What would YOU have done…tried to blend in the vintage blue toilet? Or try to make it look more like an accent?
