Since from the outside appearances, the kitchen might appear done (it did to a few guests we’ve had over), I thought I’d make a list we can cross off as we work on the few remaining items. Plus, we’re both over the kitchen project and ready to move on to other things, so this will help us keep the final finish line in mind.

1. Replace the vent cover in the ceiling.

2. Add trim around tops and sides of cabinets and pantry.

3. Add remaining trim around base of cabinets.

4. Built nook drawer.

5. Built upper nook shelves.

Nook Shelves Before

  • We’re planning to put triangular shelves in the corner.
  • There will be cookbook storage and wine cubbies between the other cabinets. Possible space for coffee mugs and/or wine glasses as well.

6. Built pantry drawers.

  • We’re building three roll out pantry drawers to add a lot more functionality to our deep pantry.

7. Buy and replace light fixtures

Missing Kitchen Light Fixture

  • Pendant light over the sink
  • Chandelier over the dining table
  • Can light in the entryway from the garage

8. Finish trim and handrail on bookcase

It’s not a long list, but enough to keep us busy for several weeks I’m sure. Still, none of these projects should be too bad. (She says now, unafraid and unaware.)

I think the goal is to have this done before we hit the one year mark. That’s sometime in March I think. So, we have to get going. If I’ve learning anything in this process, it’s that everything takes a lot longer than I think it will. Fingers crossed this giant renovation will be done before the baby comes!

Ever have a project that dragged on and on and on? How do you keep going to get across the finish line? Any tips to help us power through?
