Okay, I can stand it, because I have to…but I really dislike it. Still, we’ve both been sanding up a storm, a dust storm that is.

Warning, it’s a really, really, REALLY dusty project.

After getting it all over my face, we decided we should be wearing masks and not breathing all that dust into our lungs. Safety goggles also helped keep it out of our eyes when we were working over our heads.

I will say, though, Wyatt was the one who really did most of the hard stuff. I helped as much as I could though, by sanding by hand while he used the sanding attachment on the Shop-Vac.

Those things are super helpful, by the way. They control SO MUCH of the dust.

I had to use the sanding blocks because there were areas the bigger attachment couldn’t really get.

Like the window, and all the way around the room at the ceiling .

And then I had to go over everything because my sanding block was a finer grit so it leaves a smoother surface. The Shop-Vac attachment leaves sanding marks that have to be gone back over lightly. Wyatt helped with that step at the end, and I got a taste of what he’ll someday look like with white hair.

This is his “I’m looking over my reading glasses” old man face. Cute, huh?

(Still worth it to use–it saves that much dust. Just be sure to empty the container every so often so avoid making it work too hard–making sure to clean the filter out well, and you’ll probably need a new filter after you’re done.)

Then it was time for cleaning up,ย which started as a preventative measure by taping up some plastic to keep as much dust as possible out of the rest of our house.

Sadly, dust still seeps through somehow, but it’s less.

I swept the floor MANY times.

You can see that there was just a layer of white dust everywhere that had to be cleaned. Ugh.

But, it’s all been worth it so far, as things are finally starting to shape up in there. We have a (maybe crazy) goal to actually do the priming in there over the weekend. But, we have to finishing the last few layers of mudding first, so we’ll see.

What are your weekend plans? Something more fun than this I bet…go ahead, make us jealous with your fun projects and vacations…we’ll enjoy them by proxy while working in our dusty messy of a kitchen.
