We had a whirlwind week last week (I did laundry on a Thursday and spent 2 days chilling in a hospital with my family…what??) and it was followed by another crazy weekend that involved approximately 750 lbs of raw beef.
Maybe I should back up and rewind to explain some of that?
Ok, let’s start with last weekend when Hubs and I were gone all weekend to a church over an hour away for a reunion with the drama team I performed with in high school. It was awesome and fun, and oh yea, I had a super awful cold the whole time but managed to get through the entire weekend with some great memories and a few great laughs built in. Still, living out of a suitcase and sleeping on a cold air mattress wasn’t super great for a girl who craves the comfort and privacy of her own bed when she’s sniffing Vick’s Vapor Rub and blowing through 3 boxes of tissues in 2 days. (Seriously. It wasn’t pretty.)
(And yes, I can be a bit whiny when I’m sick, but who isn’t? And I promise if we do this again, and I end up not being sick, I won’t complain at all about the sleeping arrangements! Seriously, we were super thankful for how well we were taken care of while we were there, this is just some leftover whining from my headcold from h—, well, you know.)
Fast forward to Monday afternoon, which began our two days in the hospital when my dad had some pretty sudden and very scary heart trouble.
More suitcase-living and sleeping away from home was involved, although this time a very gracious and generous friend offered us her bed for Monday night. (Thank you, thank you, thank you!) I’ll spare you all the technical details and skip to the part when we all got to come home and get back life as normal, or almost normal at least.
Then, we started over with our week in the middle of the week, which is why laundry day got moved to Thursday and the everything was all weird. And why I wanted pretty much nothing but to be cuddled up on the couch with Hubs and a blanket and some good TV (which is actually sometimes hard to come by in our household with no cable).
Then Friday afternoon, we packed up again and headed home for a weekend with our families. Only, we weren’t just visiting. It was butchering time. As cattle farmers, my family has been butchering our own beef since before I was born and it’s an all hands on deck sort of situation when the weekend rolls around once a year.
By Saturday afternoon when we finished everything up and got it loaded in the freezers, we were all pretty pooped. (Keep in mind, we’d all spent two days in the hospital only a few days prior to this.) So, we had a nap. Then we packed up our suitcase again and headed to town to buy a birthday present for my little cousin, whose party was the next day.
That night was spent with Hubs’s parents, visiting them and their big, lovable dogs, eating homemade tacos and going to bed at a fairly early hour.
Sunday morning brought pancakes and bacon, then back to my parents’ house for the birthday party:
which ended in a little spring training and breaking in the present we got him.
And oh yea, yesterday was the Super Bowl. But we skipped out on the party invites and opted to stay on our couch once we finally got home, get Chinese food delivered, and basically soak up the normal-ness of just being at home with each other for a few glorious hours before Hubs had to get up early and leave for work again this morning. Neither of us like football so we watched commercials… (disappointing except for this one) and I read 2 magazines and finished a book while Hubs played around online and half-watched the game.
Well, that’s it, our rewind of the past few days. Tell me what’s been up in your world.
So glad that everything turned out ok for your Dad. Also really enjoyed your visit to our house! Hope this week is a little more “normal”.
Thanks!
As a fellow farmer’s daughter, that was my favorite commercial too 😉
It made me a little teary-eyed! Glad you liked it, too!
