As I shared on Monday in our plans for the nursery, we are planning to give Beanie lots of books to read (or have read to him/her) so I’m on the lookout for new titles that might be wonderful to include in our collection. We already have a lot of the “big names” like Goodnight Moon and The Very Hungry Caterpillar, so I was really excited when I got the chance to review this sweet story.

_240_360_Book.1515.coverLet me just say, it’s really cute.

Only God Can Make a Kitten, by Rhonda Gowler Greene and illustrated by Laura J. Bryant is a sweet, rhyming(!) conversation between a mother and her child as she explains that God made everything, from trees and plums to kittens and even all of us. They go through various scenes on a spring day, that mysteriously includes rain, sunshine, and snow, all in one afternoon. 🙂 Still, believable or not, it’s cute.

Right now, I’m loving all things baby animals, especially cute little kittens, so it’s no surprise I thought it was adorable.

This children’s book has really cute illustrations that invite lots of other discussion along with the story (“Do you see the butterfly?”) including lots of sweet animals for kids to find and enjoy. It’s all just really sweet. That’s the best word I can use to describe it I think.

The 27-page story has a protective book jacket and is written in a very sing-song-y voice I can imagine reading aloud many times to our future littles. 🙂 The message of God’s love in creating the world is clear and I’m guessing, easy for young minds to grasp. Of course, Beanie won’t understand the story right away, but that’s okay. I think this book would also be a really sweet gift to give as a baby dedication book or to read for Sunday School.

Also, for those of you who are “bump watchers,” here’s a shot Wyatt snapped the other day for a post I wrote for Salvation Army. I don’t think I look this big in person, but maybe the camera really does add 10 pounds? And we had just eaten a big dinner, so maybe that’s part of it… Ha! Either way, I think this photo is misleading, but I promise I don’t have a pillow under there so I guess it’s true.

As a side note, I also look super tired in this photo. Maybe because I’m laying awake at night rearranging furniture in my mind.

Either way, I’m 25 weeks today, which means we now only have 15 weeks until my due date. Wowza! Time to hit the high gear and get going on all these Beanie-related projects I guess!

I’m feeling much better overall, so thank you for all the kind words, concerns, and prayers. I still have moments when I have to take deep breaths and sip some ice water or chew gum to keep from wanting to be sick (car rides are NOT fun, which is sad because I used to NEVER get car sick) but I’m thankful to not have to worry about keeping down meals anymore.

As for any other bump news, Wyatt continues to intently check my belly button every day as he is sure it will be popping out (I’ve always been an “innie”) at any moment. For some reason, he finds that concept really entertaining. I’m still maintaining hope my belly button will be able to contain itself, but I know I’m likely going to lose that bet with myself. 🙂

So, there’s the update. Thanks for being so wonderful and encouraging with this pregnancy, everyone. We’re so excited to meet our little one!

Now, tell me your favorite children’s book. This one was so sweet and I’d never even heard of it so I know there must be a lot more out there I’m not familiar with. (I know Goodnight Moon is a classic, but I’m looking to branch out a bit and see what I might be missing!)
