Spoiler Alert, guys: The green onions won’t last forever.
Here’s how they look now, and it’s been almost a week with no change. They’re done growing.ย Apparently, those three tall shoots had a little extra push in them… but now even they’ve given up.
But that’s okay, because I still got about 5x the usage out of the regular pack of green onions. Plus, I used them more to flavor our food because I saw them everyday out on the counter.
My use of them is a perfect example of why the expression “Out of sight, out of mind” is so true. When I first had the idea to try this, I grabbed a bag at the store and stuck them in the crisper drawer of our fridge when we got home.
One month later, they were still in there, untouched. (There’s a bag of carrots in there right now suffering the same fate. Oops. They’re still good though, I checked, so I still have time to peel them, chop them, and send them with Hubs in his lunches.)
My parents seem to have this problem with fruit. I’m pretty sure there’s always a half-eaten bag of mushy, wrinkled apples or a forgotten, shriveled orange in their crisper drawer that’s older than any fruit should ever live to be. Sorry for outing you guys, but it’s true, isn’t it? And it happens to all of us.
That’s why I loved having the green onions out on the counter! I actually used them. And then they grew back so I used them again. And again. And again! It was awesome.
I’m loving having my herbs on the counter as well, although the parsley seems to have hit a roadblock and the chives don’t grow as fast as I’d like to use them.

Do you have any wrinkled forgotten fruits or vegetables in your fridge? What about herbs on your counter-tops? Have you tried regrowing green onions? Any tips for getting them to last even longer?
Stick those extra carrots in a crock pot with some roast or cut up and fry in a pan with zucchini and potatoes! ๐ I love mixing up my veggies! I used to dread eating veggies until I learned the possibilities! ๐
I love vegetables, too! (Just not carrots…unless they are in a roast! Yum!
And thanks for the recipe!
Here’s my favorite roast recipe!! ๐ I don’t like apricots but this is SO good!

Fun! I just got some green onions that I’ll try to regrow. I’ve been watching my romaine lettuce grow slowly in my kitchen. It’s great!
Nice! We’ll have to have a chat about lettuce…ours isn’t doing so well in the garden yet.
