It’s no secret to anyone, least of all to me or Hubs, that I come by my love of DIY and household improvement projects naturally. My parents have been living in, and loving, their 100-year-old farmhouse for 30+ years now, doing little updates all the time.

This is my dad, hard at work in their well-stocked garage.

Most recently, they have been working on the sunroom, which they added when I was young.

It used to be used more as a mudroom, and partially as a place to grow plants in the winter and possibly sit on a warm day.

A few years ago, they changed the sink and the counter tops from pink to earthy green, at my recommendation, I might add, and it helped a lot to modernize the room. Recently, they’ve added a heater to keep it warm and cozy in the winter, and some more comfortable furniture.

Now, they sit out there a few times each day. Which is great because the room gets more use. And also great because it inspired them to work on the room to make it look a lot more modern and homey.

The white washed paneling got a fresh coat of light brown paint, which really made the room look newer and cleaner and fresher.

They also added a new ceiling fan, cabinet hardware, and a clock, all with a classy oil-rubbed bronze finish, which matches their prized wind chimes really well. They were in the process of adding new, more substantial trim around the door.

A few other quick updates and changes, including some fresh flowers in antique wooden sewing drawers, a painted mirror (that helps add some natural light to the inside wall of the room, and some new white cord covers to hide the electrical on the ceiling, bring it all together nicely.

They also want to refresh the art on the walls with some new pieces.

I think the room looks great, and it was just the kick in the pants I needed, when visiting last week while Wyatt was out of town, to get home and start on a project I’d been putting off…which I pretty finished all by myself in a few hours. A little inspiration can go a long way, huh?

Progress is fun, no matter where it is, so feel free to share any progress you’ve made lately! We can all use the extra inspiration, right?
