Last night, Hubs and I finally had a late-night rendezvous with Mr. Craig.

Who’s Mr. Craig? Well, he’s the man with the list. And I’ve been trying to arrange a successful hookup for the past month. Finally, last night, at about 6:30, we nailed down a time, place, and a purchase price.

Then, Hubs and I hopped in the car and drove about 30 minutes to the north. After a bit of heavy lifting, a nice handshake, and some late-night pleasantries, we were on our way, this time carrying our coveted precious cargo.

Then, since it was cold and we were tired and ready to relax after a very long week of stress and stuff, we left our new bundle of joy in the car overnight, safe and sound in the warm not-as-cold-as-outside garage.

Anyway, this morning, I couldn’t help but to go out and take a quick peak. Here’s the view:

I know she doesn’t look like much, and she’s all covered up, but it’s the best I can do before Hubs gets home from work and can help me unload her.

Here’s her story:

After about a month of searching online for a dresser to use as a TV stand for Stevie, I found this vintage beauty on Monday morning and sent an email to her owner to see if she was still available.

She was! But I initially decided against her after finding out she was a bit longer than I’d originally planned. Plus, this was all taking place by email on a very hectic day, as it turned out, so it was easier to just back away. Then, yesterday, I noticed she was still listed, and this time, my connection to her was even stronger. She’s classic and vintage, but unique and special. Sturdy, large, and full of potential. In short, this time, I knew I had to have her.

Plus, at $50 for the dresser, mirror, and headboard (when we were hoping to spend about $50 on just a dresser–which is a big bargain as is!), she was a great deal.

So I sent another email, crossing my fingers no one had stolen her from me, and I asked Hubs what he thought. When he said the two words I needed to hear, “I’m in,” and I got a reply that she was still there, I did a little happy dance and got to work setting up the details.

Now that she’s here, we need to decide where we’re going to use her. And how we’re going to fix her up…sand and stain? Paint? I’m definitely picturing those squares in a contrasting color…not sure what though. I like the wood tone, but I may want to paint her. You know me and my painting habits…

Stay tuned for more on this story!

Tell me about your first time with Mr. Craig. Did he treat you nicely or leave you hanging? Did he hook you up with a sweet deal on a sweet piece like he did for us? Spill the beans!

6 Thoughts on “Our First Encounter With Mr. Craig”

  • My first instinct when I see her is paint, but isn’t most of th furniture in your living room wood tones? I could see it painted a pretty color, or really just a crisp white would be beautiful!

  • Yea, we have a wooden bookcase and a darker wood-topped side table. I’d love to paint this…but I’m trying to think long term in case it would ever be better to be painted! I love the idea of painting it white, though!

  • Have you ever been to Restoration Emporium down in the Crossroads District? They have tons of vintage style furniture that has been painted, refinished etc… It’s a very cool place and might be somewhere to get some ideas. They have strange hours – check them out on Facebook. They post lots of pics of their merchandise (I think it’s like a consignment type place).

  • She looks like she belongs in your home! I think I agree about the paint. It looks like it would be very useful, whereever you put it!
