How to Make Any Room Feel Cozier? Add a Round Rug!

I’ve gotten some questions about whether minimizing a room makes it feel less cozy. And honestly, I’d say no. Maybe. Sometimes.

Ha!

But, being intentional about the items in a room can certainly still leave a room feeling cozy, but calm. And one of my favorite tricks I’ve used recently in both of our kids’ rooms is to add a small round rug to anchor a space and add a layer of texture, which adds coziness.

We have carpet in our bedrooms, so adding a full-size area rug in our kids’ rooms wasn’t really an option. I mean, we could have. Some people like a layered area rug on carpet, and it can be a great solution if you have carpet that you don’t really like. But we have new carpet that we really like…and that we spent a pretty decent amount of our savings on, so dropping another $100 on a full-size rug wasn’t really an option for us.

I think one my of my secrets is to pick something with an alternate pattern and texture as your carpet. In Emma’s room, we did a faux fur rug and I really like how much softness it adds. Her room is so small but a small rug slightly layered under her rocking chair anchors that little space and almost makes the room feel bigger to me. It certainly adds warmth and coziness.

Plus, it’s my favorite trick for any nursery. It’s perfect for playtime or tummy time on the floor, and if you’re up in the night with cold feet (as you will be!) it’s extra cozy to have a little extra cushion and warmth for your toes! And it’s just…cute!
