I have another quick green onion update for you guys today.

(For the first two posts in this series, read this post, and then this one.)

The ones in the water are doing awesome so far. You can see how tall they are, hiding behind all my lovely tulips.

Green Onion Growth

The ones in the dirt seem to be stunted. They grew fine the first time around, but after I trimmed them again last week, they haven’t done nearly as much as the ones in the water. I’m afraid they may be too wet in their jar. So, today I set them outside for some sunshine, in hopes they’ll dry out a bit and grow some more in this great weather.

Green Onion Growth 2

Still, I’m calling this project a success, considering I’ve now had 3 sets of use from this one set of green onions. How’s that for thrifty window sill gardening? Score!

Feel free to “ooo…” and “ahhh…” over the before and after, here:

Regrowing Green Onions

Now, get to the store and buy yourself some green onions to regrow. They are a great, healthy way to add flavor to your food without adding salt or butter. Plus, they seem to be sustainable, at least for now. What more can you ask for in a kitchen plant? I’ll keep you posted on how long this growth spurt lasts.

In the meantime, are you growing anything right now? Maybe you’re growing a garden, in which case I’ll be jealous since it’s too wet to dig here. Maybe you’re growing flowers for Mother’s Day? Or growing your knowledge before finals week? Or growing a baby in your belly? All those things count, so let’s hear it!
