This year for Halloween, our calendar seems busier than ever before so I haven’t had much time for projects, but I did have a few little DIYs I wanted to share with you because they were super easy and turned out really cute. Today I have this cute little basket upcycle project to turn this plain wire basket into a purrr–fect snack station.

See what I did there?

I actually found this three-tiered metal basket for free in a “Buy Nothing” group for our city that I’m in. I knew it would be perfect to dress up a bit for Halloween after seeing a similar project as inspiration HERE.

It’s a super easy DIY. I started by just drawing my tail and ear shapes on some scrap carboard. You’ll want to use something pretty thick and sturdy.

Then, I wrapped them in some black yarn I already had on hand and just hot glued them onto the basket. The nice thing is that you can pretty easily peel the hot glue off the metal basket if you want to use it during the rest of the year without the cat ears, or bat wings, if that’s the route you decided to go.

In all honesty, I did this project last year but I never got it shared here so when I pulled out our totes of Halloween stuff, the ears and tail were in there and I redid it today. Thanks, Past Me, for saving those!

Anyway, I think this turned out really cute filled with Halloween snacks. But it’s also pretty cute with some of our Halloween books stacked inside on the hearth.

(I had to remove the top tier and handle for this, and while it would have been good to add a different bolt to secure it, I didn’t find any in Wyatt’s stash of old random bolts and such so I just dabbed some hot glue on it to hold it secure and it worked pretty well. In our house, Halloween is practically sponsored by hot glue, from DIY decor to no-sew costumes.)

Anyway, what do you think? Do you have a basket you can turn into a bas-kitty? Or maybe it’s a bas-cat? Which pun fits this project the best??
