Here’s the deal, guys. A few weeks ago, Wyatt and I picked up this little shelf/cabinet thing at a garage sale for $5.
It’s a bit dirty and worn…and yes there’s a few stickers on it right now. But we have 2 replacement drawer fronts (they’re green instead of blue) so the sticker residue isn’t a problem. Unless we want to keep the spiderman sticker!
It’s metal, so I know it will clean up pretty well, and that means it’s paintable. We’ll need to replace the top board as well, it looks pretty grimy. Ick. But we could replace it with something cooler than particle board…maybe solid wood, or metal, or even cork?
At this point, I’m planning to leave the silver metal frame alone but probably paint one of the green drawer fronts a darker color. Black? Gray? Oil-rubbed-bronze?
Also, I originally planned to use this inside to bring a bit of industrial/modern touch to the house. But I think Hubs is learning toward leaving it in the garage. I can see both arguments.
On the one hand, it’s technically a child’s nightstand, in a cheapish brand. (Hubs knows furniture from his years in college working at a furniture store.)
But I think it could look kind of cool and vintage if we clean it up and tweak it a bit.
On the other hand, maybe we should just use it for waterproof (sort of ) storage out there. We could even add wheels and use it as a portable work station?
Either way, I’m pleased we found it and think it will be a good piece…however we decide to use it.
So, really, we’re undecided, and we’d love to hear your suggestions! Help! Inside? Outside? Painted? Casters? ???
I am seeing wheels….in the garage. Or craft storage…maybe in the basement. But I’m sure you will make it something really cool and functional!
Yea, that would be nice to have a rolling storage cart out there…
