First of all, I’m sorry if you guys ever feel like the updates we post on here are too boring and too basic to count as DIY progress. But sometimes, while we’re working on several “big” projects (like our landscaping project) and a few really big projects (like planning our deck and our kitchen,) we have to fill in with some pretty small stuff.

Keep in mind, we both have “regular” jobs and we’re constantly saving our pennies for the next project…which means the smaller stuff is sometimes pretty small. But we have also noticed that sometimes it’s the small stuff that makes a big impact on our moods and overall inspiration to finish the bigger jobs.

Take, for example…the soap dispenser in the kitchen:

Kitchen Soap Dispenser from Target

I told Hubs last night how much I appreciated that we’d spent the 7ish bucks to buy that beautiful glass dispenser. Even though planning for our kitchen can be a real headache, seeing that little piece of how I eventually want it to look reminds me that it will all be worth it, as silly as that seems. So bear with us when it seems like all we ever do is little stuff…big stuff is coming…someday…

But back to the reason I started this little update post–my office curtains!

New Office Curtains

Yes, another room has been marked off the list for hanging curtains–success!

And I am super excited with the ones we found at Target…which were PERFECT for the room.

Not only are they yellow and gray (a no brainer!), they also have tan and brown tones…which at first I was unsure about (the sale price convinced me), but that totally ties in my tan desk chair!

And it matches the beige carpet…

I mean, how much more perfect could we have gotten it? I can’t believe I wasn’t even considering how that would match when I was debating buying these at the store. Rookie mistake to not consider the chair that we found at Cargo Largo–(for cheap!) that I was halfway planning to recover in gray fabric someday down the road.

No need to recover it now, though, because it matches really well!

And I like that the tan tones in the curtain tend to tone down the craziness of the yellow and blue room. Not that I don’t love a little crazy…or a lot of yellow and blue. But you get the idea.

I’ve already grown this room up a bit in terms of the wall art. It went from this:

To this:

Here’s the post about that.

And then we added a chandelier! How much more sophisticated can you get, right? (Yes, it’s a blue chandelier, but I say it still counts!)

And now the curtains have made it even more sophisticated…while still being super fun. (I realize yellow may never be considered as actually sophisticated…but you understand what I mean by making it a bit more mild, right?)

Now, I would have purchased two of these panels if our Target had them, but they only had one left (and I think it was a return since the package was open and discounted) but I just used the technique I used in the living room to cut them in half.

If you want to see the post on that, check out this post.

And although the window is larger than the small ones in the living room, I think it will be okay to only have small panels on each side. I don’t really plan to close them ever (we already have wooden blinds on all the windows).New Office Curtains 2

I’ve really enjoyed gazing at these babies during my hours in here every day for work. They’re cheerful and fun…but a little grown up feeling, too…because they’re curtains…and I’m still getting used the post-college days of not having to tape my curtains onto the wall. πŸ™‚

And they look so good with the floor pouf I made!

Plus, for less than a $30 upgrade, including the curtains and the curtain rod, both from Target, it’s pretty fun and functional, so you can’t beat that! After all, this home DIY stuff is all about making your home work better for yourself, right?

I can’t get over how empty the room seems to look in the before-curtain photos:

And how much I like it more now. I sometimes stop to gaze in on them from the hallway as I walk by.

Hubs thinks I’m crazy. I say it’s nice, and not that abnormal. This room is all my own…and it’s such a reflection of my personality…so it’s nice to stop and appreciate the yellow-blue-sunshine-y cheerfulness…

Tell me what little things you’ve upgraded lately, or what little projects have been your favorite around your house…or our house! Do you have Β room that reflects your personality perfectly? I’d love to talk about it!
