Sorry we’ve been neglecting the kitchen on the blog recently, but I promise we aren’t neglecting it in real life. Want proof?
Running water!!!
Want more proof?
Yep, those are knobs and cabinet pulls!
Wyatt made a couple of little jigs to help us attach each piece in the right spot quickly. Basically, he measured one and made a wooden template so he could drill the holes really quickly. He’s working on a post to tell you about that more in detail.
Then, I was in charge of screwing each piece in place. He trusted me to drill the holes, too. But I was too chicken and made him do it.
If you remember back a couple of years ago, we already switched out the hardware on our old kitchen cabinets as part of our mini kitchen makeover.
So, when we ordered our new cabinets, we saved somewhere between $100 and $1000 (depending on which we’d choose) by using the ones we had already purchased.
First of all, why on earth is it so so so expensive to buy hardware? Sheesh.
Of course, we did make one small adjustment by buying four new drawer pulls. We only have four drawers in the kitchen so we “splurged” on nice modern ones from Home Depot. (Not from Kraftmaid, which is where our cabinets were ordered from.)
Each one was only about $5 so for $20 bucks total, we got to have something exactly like we wanted. (We already really liked the knobs we had.)
Here’s how the two of them look together:
Just as a reminder, this is what it looked like before:
And here’s what it looks like now:
Pretty snazzy, huh?
(Minus the icky mess on the counter. We’re still remodeling, after all!)
Even the sink cabinet now has its bling. Have I mentioned how much I like the sink? π
I always think of hardware as a necklace or engagement ring for the cabinets. So you could say that now we’re really serious with the new kitchen. It’s official, we’re in love.
Just kidding.
Obviously.
Kinda.
However, Wyatt and I have both been super grateful to have this step done because it was really difficult to open the doors and drawers without them! Seriously,Β just think about how difficult it was to pull open the soft close drawers and cabinets (which have a little “resistance” at first. Add in the task of tricky, tight corners while trying not to get whatever mess we have on our hands onto our white cabinets while frantically looking for a bowl while making dinner and you had a pretty frustrating process.
But now, we’re opening and closing doors in style.
So, what are your thoughts on hardware? Can you tell it’s even more fancy and official in there now? Any idea on why it’s so dang expensive?
love the look!!
Thanks!
we have bar pulls like that, and I like them, but watch out, if you stand close your pockets will get caught on them!
Ha! That’s great!
I think they look great.
Thanks!
Looks great!
Thank you! We’re really excited. π
I’m loving it! Can’t wait to see it all finished up!
