On Wednesday last week, Wyatt and I celebrated our third wedding anniversary. Since we’ve both been really busy with work lately, we weren’t able to take a trip or anything. So, we just got ourselves semi-fancied up and headed out to a nice dinner.

(As a side note, we did a much better job of taking our annual anniversary photo this year. Here’s what we looked like on our first anniversary:

And you can watch our anniversary trip recap from last year, here.)

We ended up choosing to go to Hereford House since it was close to us and we knew they would have several fancy dishes to choose from. We’d been there before and enjoyed it, but this time was even better.

We had fancy drinks (well, Wyatt had a “fancy” beer) and two appetizers. We ordered the baked brie but were also delivered a shrimp cocktail on the house.

Then, we had salad, and bread, and this deliciousness. So yum.

Anniversary Dinner 2

Best restaurant meal I’ve had in a long time…really, really good.

And then, as if we weren’t full enough (really, we weren’t feeling awful at this point), we ordered chocolate cake to go and ate it later at home. Yu-um.

Also, since it was our third anniversary, the traditional gift to give each other was leather. We considered a few things but ended up deciding on a leather-inspired gift of new luggage. We’d been using the cheap set I bought in high school or too long and it was literally crumbling more every trip into a big mess.

So, even though the set we picked out wasn’t leather, or super nice, we figured we’d try to find something leather to go along with it and we’ve done a little shopping to see about a some custom leather luggage tags. That’s still in the plan, but we haven’t picked anything out yet.

Anniversary Luggage

We ended the night by re-reading our promises to each other, and I think we both may have remembered a few we need to work on for the next year. Then, we looked through our wedding album and reminisced about the various things we remembered about that day.

“It’s too bad no one got a picture of the first person to sneak a cupcake before they were served.”

“That’s right after my toenail was crushed during the dollar dance.”

And then, we kissed goodnight, and went to sleep after what could have been considered a pretty normal day. But isn’t that what major is all about anyway? Celebrating the normal, every day little things, and making those sources of joy?

How do you like to celebrate anniversaries? Taking a trip? Going to dinner? Buying traditional or nontraditional gifts?
