For Christmas, I got a whole bunch of new toys tools for the garage. We’ve been waiting for it to get warmer before we do any major work out there but on Saturday afternoon, it hit 50 degrees and that was warm enough to tackle at least a small project before it got dark.

I decided my first project would be hanging this retractable extension cord reel.

I opened the cord reel and looked at the pieces to find out the best way/place to hang it from the ceiling. First, I was measuring out away from the beam that the garage door plug in was on.  I checked in the attic about the garage to make sure they 2x4s were on 16″ centers (they were).

Then I ended up not being able to mount the cord reel where I planned due to the short length of the cord that I had to use to plug it in with.  So I ended up mounting it on the same 2×4 that the outlet and garage door opener was mounted to.

Finally, I adjusted the reel stop so that the end of the extension reached to about 7 feet high, high enough to not drag the cars, but low enough to reach without a ladder or step.

Look how far it reaches!

Any new tools for your house this holiday season? Anyone need help from DIwYatt to install them?
