Our new bedroom furniture is being delivered in a couple days (Woot woot!) and that means we have to make some room for the new stuff. Which means we have to get rid of the old stuff…although, if you know us very well, you know we don’t get rid of much of anything around here. At least nothing that still has the life left in it.

In this case, that means the dresser and chest that we were using in the bedroom need to be relocated to a new home somewhere in the house.

It also means all the stuff inside the dressers has to be gone through, organized, and stored somewhere piled on the guest room bed until the new furniture gets here.

At first, I was super tempted just to take them both down to the basement until we knew where we would want them down the road. After all, we’ll have way more storage with the new stuff than we did with the old stuff so we shouldn’t need to use these for additional storage for awhile, right? Plus, I don’t want to clutter the rooms up here for no reason. I mean, everything’s working as it is, right?

Well, sort of right.

See, when I realized I could move the chest into the guest room and use it to store linens and stuff, I realized I could move the sheets from their current home in the hall built-ins. Which meant I could move something else into that space.

Enter the board games.

I love to play games. And a lot of our friends and family like them, too. So, I’m making a pledge to offer to play them more often when people come over. And if they’re on the main floor of our house, I won’t have to go traipsing down to the basement storage room to get them every time!

Now, I know the inside of a built-in storage nook may not be the most interesting thing in the world, but it’s pretty exciting to me because even though this wasn’t an official New Year’s Resolution, I really am going to aim to play more of the awesome games we have since last year they lived in our closet collecting dust and wishing to see the sun.

And it’s always pretty fun to find new and better ways to use what you already have, right?

Here’s the old dresser in the new space:

And the bookshelves that were in that space in their new (probably temporary) home on another wall of the guest room:

Plus, all this moving around means the new bedroom furniture is almost here, which means it’s time for me to sign off and go do another happy dance.

Cue the music please.

Now, while I’m jumping around the living room, tell me what new stuff you’re making room for in your house. A new dresser? A new brand of snack cakes in the pantry? A new baby? Spill your beans!

2 Thoughts on “Out With The Old”

  • We are talking of rearranging our bedroom too. May move the buffet to the living room. I may also need help with some wall stuff…would like to get you wedding pics up.

    • Fun! Wyatt’s told me a lot about that buffet, but I’ve never seen it. Sounds like it might make a nice entertainment center if you wanted it. You also have that hutch in the basement…and a chest of drawers. 🙂 I’m happy to help any way we can, of course!
