We spent four nights away from home over Thanksgiving, so we didn’t get to celebrate our first Thanksgiving in our house in our house, if you know what I mean.

But that’s okay, we had a great time visiting our families, two nights at his parents, two nights at mine. We ate well and often, laughed a lot, watched some TV together, made delicious meals, did some projects, got addicted to and then tired of a new game on our phones, finished reading two books, decorated a little for Christmas, and slept in every day.

It was glorious.

Of course, we didn’t get to visit everyone we would have liked to have seen. We missed my extended family on Thanksgiving and we didn’t visit his grandparents or aunts and uncles. But we did see both of our parents and siblings, which was great. And there just comes a point when we can’t see everyone or do everything. I’m sure our Christmas will be more hectic at times with all the driving back and forth, but that’s why we decided to stay close this time. And to us, I think traveling to visit families on Christmas is all part of the fun. For Thanksgiving, we enjoy the slower-paced, relaxed feel.

Last year I remember getting home from the Thanksgiving weekend away and being so tired. We ended up eating frozen pizza Β on our couch while just chilling out and watching TV.

This year, now that we’re back home, we are just so happy to be sleeping in our own bed again. (Isn’t that always what you miss the most?)

We had a car-full of things to unload, from suitcases to Christmas decorations we had stored at my parents house…and other things we found and brought home, so we had to spend a few minutes unloading and carrying things into the house. We had spent part of the way home planning our next home-improvement projects so we did some looking and planning for a while, then we changed into PJs and settled into our usual positions in the living room to end the night on a peaceful note.

Even though we were gone for the actual day, we have had some pretty great little moments of cuddling on the love seat and eating pumpkin-things and watching Thanksgiving episodes of our favorite shows, so I won’t say we didn’t celebrate being at home at all..it was just a little early, and then a little delayed.

What are you Thanksgiving traditions? Do you stay at home or visit family? Maybe the family comes to you?Β
