As part of John and Sherry’s Pinterest Challenge, I spent my Friday night painting stamping away at the kitchen table with apples.

You can check out this post, for the full recap of that adventure, which also included some paper stamping projects.

In the end, I ended up going from this ugly old pillow (that was part of Hubs’s original bedding set he bought in college):

to this cute little pattern of stamped apples:

It’s pretty cute as is, but it gets better–just wait!

After letting the paint dry overnight, I went to work with a fine tip sharpie marker adding a few more details.

The inspiration for this step came from here, with adorable yellow apple/lemon wrapping paper, which she actually made with apples. How crazy awesome is that??

I added a few little circles and dots and outlines and even a few words. In the end, my blinged up old pillow case ended up looking like this:

and this:

Pretty cute, right?

Well, wait, it gets better, again!

I snipped the back side of the pillow case (the side I’d been working on) free from the rest of the old pillow case and found a piece of fabric from my small stash (it’s barely a stash when I consider the awesome amounts of sweet fabric my Mother-in-law has to use!) that would fit for the back.

Placing the outsides together, on the inside, I lined up the edges and put in a few pins to hold the fabric in place while I was working on it.

Then, I went down the sewing machine my Mother-in-law so graciously gave me, and after Hubs fixed the needle for me (I somehow manage to sometimes get it stuck–I have bad luck with bobbins), I quickly stitched up three and a half sides of the pillow.

Then, I turned it inside out and started stuffing. This is the fun part of pillow making.

One of our couch cushions (which I wasn’t using anyway) proudly and nobly gave us its stuffing for the glory of the new pillow.

After finishing stitching up the bottom by hand, my pillow was finished!

Isn’t it perfect with the sweet blanket my mom bought for me at Target?

I’ve spent the past few months agonizing over what color to use as the main accent in our living room, and with the blue blanket and the blue apple pillow, I’m finally settled and satisfied with this teal blue color. I think it will suit our little house just fine, don’t you?

Now, I know I’m a little fruit crazy these days, with our little pear, that we found in the last John and Sherry challenge, the Thrift Shop challenge! And I’ve already told you guys about my adorable little yellow apple. But, I still think this may be my favorite craft project I’ve done in awhile, and it’s perfect for the living room since that room has become our subtly fruit-themed room, apparently!

Plus, if I ever get tired of the fruit (as if!), I can just turn it around and see the cute blue swirlies.

A big thanks goes out to John and Sherry for “Pinspiring” me to get up and get to work! And to the blogs I found that gave me the idea to turn stamping with apples into a new pillow for our couch!

And hey! Hubs did a project for the Pinterest Challenge, too! Check out his post here!

What projects have you finished lately? I’d love to see pictures! And is anyone else as obsessed as I am with fruit these days?
