We aren’t big drinkers here in the Shipman household, but we do occasionally enjoy an adult beverage or two. And when we enjoy wine or champagne we always save the corks.

In fact, I also always write the date and a brief description of what we were doing that night or why we were drinking. For example,

Saving Wine Corks

Or, a more recent tradition:

Saving Champagne Corks

I’m not sure why I started saving them this way, but we ended up with a mason-jar full of corks over the past two years.Β And, it was time to find a better storage space.

Plus, the corks, along with the bottle caps, which we also collect (again, not sure why) were taking up space in our kitchen window. See them in the bottom left corner, below?

So, I’ve been casually looking for a bigger, better cork storage idea.

While I love some of the ones I’ve seen on Pinterest like this one, this one or this one, I wasn’t really wanting to use them in a project. I wanted to be able to go through them at a later date and read all the corks.

So, I started checking Home Goods and Target every now and then for a jar.

When we chose the milk-jug bottles from Target for our bedroom (you can see them here), I almost decided to use them for the corks and caps, but ultimately, I wanted something that was clear so we could see the things inside.

And in the end, Home Goods came through for me this time. I can always count on finding something awesome at both places. This one just happened to speak to me for this. I love the greenish-blueish-glass tint, which admittedly, is hard to capture on camera.

Side note: I found it while browsing on a Friday night with a friend and her adorable little girl. It’s lucky I had company with me or I likely would have gone home with a chair that night—they had yellow ones in the store!

Anyway, here’s how it looks in its new home on our hearth.

I like the height it adds to the hearth, and we do most of our wine sipping in the living room anyway, so why not keep them in there? I don’t think it’s too kitchen-y…What do you all think?

I like the color, too. But it’s subtle which is nice. But it’s fun for people to notice it and then check out our memories with us. Plus, it was from Home Goods, so you know it was a great deal!

Wine Cork Jar 2We still have lots of room to fill, so we better drink up!
