Christmas has been put away in our house for awhile now, but I have been dragging my heels a little about “redecorating” with our usual pretties and such. I know I could go ahead and put out some Valentine’s day decor, but Hubs isn’t a huge fan of that sort of ย (pink) stuff, so I’m waiting until it’s closer. That means I was a bit unsure what to do with the mantle, which I like to make a little seasonal to keep it fresh and interesting.

For example, the chalkboard.

This morning I finally got motivated to get it all wiped clear and ready for a new message. However, I was at a loss for words. Pretty, no?

I’m sort of (slowly) working towards a winter-white themed mantle display now for January. Then, I can just quickly add some red/pink/hearts-and-such stuff for February. ย That means I didn’t want a lovey-dovey quote up there yet. As much as that would go with Mr. Love Dove.

I couldn’t think of a good winter quote though because we don’t have a lot of snow and I didn’t want it to be too sad or depressing.

(As much as I like this quote from bill Watterson.)

So I looked up some suggestions online and settled on one I remember from high school literature or college English major days–not sure which.

Anyway, here’s how it turned out:

And the whole work in progress:

Now it’s your turn to “chalk” to me!

Tell me about your seasonal decor. Are you going straight for Valentine’s Day or sticking with some winter wonderland? Am I the only one who is dragging my feet to “redecorate” after taking down the Christmas tree? Do you have a chalkboard to decorate? I’d love to see a picture!

2 Thoughts on “Chalk to Me”

  • I just still have some snowmen up (and my nativity :/ I haven’t gotten motivated to get to the basement and grab the box) I also have that cheesy fake “snow” like felt fabric stuff out around the base of the tv on the stand which gives a real winter feeling. I do have some great Valentines Day stuff (that I scored on clearance last year!) waiting for me in the basement, but I don’t know when the right time is to put it up! My gut says wait until Febuary but I hate to only have it out for two weeks!

    • So true! I’d say wait til the last week of February? And then leave it up a week after the official day? All of February can count as the “love month,” right?
