I tend to be a little scatterbrained when it comes to decorating and projects around our house. Being pregnant and semi-overwhelmed about all we want to accomplish between now and then doesn’t help. So, even though I’ve been pulling ideas and thoughts together on what Beanie’s nursery should look and feel like since WAY before Beanie was in our lives, I knew I needed to come up with an actual plan if I wanted the final project to look anything like what my original goals were.

Basically, we wanted gender neutral and light and bright, with some fun pops of color.

Sort of how I envisioned the kitchen. I guess that means my taste is developing into something more cohesive than “we bought a house, let’s paint all the rooms all the colors!” if you know what I mean.

So, I set out looking for inspiration on Pinterest, of course.

And I finally got all my favorite ideas pulled together into one cohesive, semi-easy to follow plan. I wanted to create a mood board to keep all those thoughts organized and to easily share with friends and family who keep kindly asking me what our “theme” for the nursery is. I didn’t know how else to describe it other than to just show them something, so here we go:

Beanie's Nursery mood board final

1. color scheme (created myself) 2. rocker 3. side table 4. fabric hampers 5. alphabet bin 6. book ledges 7. rug 8. giraffe (already own) 9. crib 10. cloud mobile 11. hot air balloon mobile 12. wall art 13. dresser inspiration

Keep in mind, we aren’t looking for these exact pieces in many cases (although we did buy this crib and will likely register for/buy this chair…these ideas are just meant to serve as a guide for us when shopping and DIYing so we don’t get too far off the original plan.

One thing I knew from the beginning I wanted was book ledges so we could display all of Beanie’s books facing out instead of placed on a bookshelf. I found this pin several years ago and it really, really spoke to me.

I just imagined hours of reading in there with our future little one and couldn’t help myself from dreaming about a baby who loves books as much as I do. I also really liked the striped ceiling but Wyatt has said “no way” to that, and I get why. 🙂

I also really like giraffes, and although we don’t want a giraffe-themed nursery (I had a giraffe themed room as a little girl for awhile) I wanted something to represent that. I mean, how cute, right?

Just as a refresher, this is what the room looked like before as our guest room:

And, I should share a photo of what the room looks like currently:

I’d say we have a lot to do, huh?

What are your favorite features to put in a nursery? Anything we missed or should think about adding?

  • If your child is anything like mine, you will want to make sure that rocking chair is comfy! I would say I spent about a third of my life in the rocking chair in our son’s room the first 3 months of his life. (And ended up spending more time in it the nights following his shots every few months.)

We originally bought a glider for his room but it became so uncomfortable that we ended up just bringing our plush living room rocker/recliner into his room. Wish I would have known that before I dropped the $$$ on that darn glider. :/

    • Such good advice! I wish there were more (decently affordable) chairs sold locally so we could try them out! So many of the ones I like are only online…booo. Thanks for the comment!

  • I’m not even pregnant (for at least another year or two) but I adore this!
If some random stalker starts pinning every.single.one of your pins, it’s me!
For us, sheep (lambs, more specifically) are very special. Don’t want to go too all out with sheep when we get to do a nursery so this is perfect!
Cannot wait to see the final room and of course your sweet baby!

    • Me again!
I followed you on Pinterest and noticed that we have such similar tastes on a number of things! Specifically your hairstyles board has all the styles that I’ve tried or will try in future!

Enjoying your blog more and more!

  • for our first child our nursery wasn’t done until the day i was due!! then fast forward about 13 years and we adopted a little girl. for the first six months of her life she slept in our closet in a pack and play until we finally finally finished her room. we had no prep time for her due to a crazy surprise adoption!!

  • Wow you should see what our bedroom meant for the nursery looked like just a few weeks before my due date. It’s amazing how prep changes from first child to the last 🙂
We went to our local furniture store (Homemakers) and purchased a recliner/rocking chair that eventually could go with living room furniture. Its not as fun cus it doesn’t match perfectly, but it’s practical.

And I wish I got just a whole bunch of my favorite bedding from Target And not a full matching set from online. I got mutual colors but it would be nice to change it up now that she’s older. But who would of known she’s still an only child. 🙁

Have fun! The nursery is so fun!!
