Rain, Rain, Go Away…

But not forever, we don’t want another drought like last year. I just want to get finished setting up the garden and give everything some time to grow! Plus, my dad is probably getting concerned about all his fields of freshly planted corn and not-yet-planted beans.

Today is the 4th big rain we’ve had recently and it’s been raining here all day, literally. I am starting to get concerned for my potted plants.

Earlier this week, I dumped 2 inches out of the tub that my spinach pots are sitting in. When I went out to check on them, they were floating, almost literally.

Floating Spinach

Yikes.

I set them all out of the deck railing to dry out (after dumping any excess water I could) but when it started raining again, I’m afraid all that effort was wasted.

Also, I found out the hard way we forgot to drill holes in the bottom on this poor guy.He was swimming when I tipped him over to let some of the water out. Then Hubs drilled a few holes in the bottom and it drained out over an inch of water!

Draining Flower PotGoodness, poor little guy was drowning in all that water!

Draining Flower Pot 2Plus, the rain is making everything weedy. Ick.

On the other hand, the sod that we transplanted from the backyard to the front yard is getting the much-needed moisture that it will need if it’s going to survive, so there’s some good in all this rain I suppose.

I’m keeping a close eye on the garden plants, and so far, everything seems to be weathering the storms just fine. Hopefully it stays that way until these rains move out of the area…if that ever happens.

I guess the saying is true that when it rains…it pours. Literally.

Is it raining where you are? If so, I’ll leave you with my very favorite rainy-day entertainment. Enjoy!
