Well, there’s no turning back now. We have officially ordered our cabinets and sink. Although the sink is returnable if we don’t like it (or decide to scrap the kitchen project!), the cabinets are special ordered. So they will be ours whether or not we do the kitchen. And that means, there’s no going back now.’

On Friday night, Wyatt and I went to Lowe’s to make our final cabinet decisions. Yup, we went with Lowe’s KraftMaid cabinets after a long battle and a lot of planning and decisions.

We’ll do a full breakdown later on how we made those decisions and what they were, but for now, here’s our proof we actually did take the plunge and make the big purchase.

I’ve never walked out from a store with a receipt that long and nothing else in my hand.

We took advantage of a few of their special deals offered with the cabinet purchase and then decided to open a charge card in order to save an extra 5%, which ended up pretty much giving us the tax for free. (And, if we pay it off right away, we won’t have any interest charges, which is always a concern with putting things on a credit card.)

And, as of earlier this week, I had officially gotten the call from the manufacturer that scheduled our delivery and confirmed our order. So…yup. This is all actually happening.

Also, on Thursday night, we selected and chose a sink. In fact, we went with a nice little sink package, so it includes all the hook ups and faucet and racks and stuff. Really, it’s pretty exciting to know it all came together and doesn’t involve more shopping. I’ll admit even I was excited about one lump purchase instead of a bunch of little ones.

Anyway, after a little research, a lot of discussion, and some good measurements, we selected the All-in-One Farmhouse Apron Front Stainless Steel (Silver) 36 in. Double Bowl Kitchen Sink with Faucet and Accessories in Chrome.

(UPDATE: The faucet that came with this sink ended up having an issue, so we got it replaced for free under warranty from the company, but we do still really like this sink and would recommend it!)

Sink screen grab

It seems to fluctuate a bit in price, and it wasn’t exactly the cheapest option we could have gone with, but in the end, we decided the splurge was worth it for a sink that would really work and look beautiful in the space. We purchased from Home Depot and used our eBates account to save a little through cashback, as well as used a coupon code for an extra $10 off. We also scored free shipping, so all in all, we felt like we had found about as good of a deal as we could.

I was really excited to choose this sink after seeing several drool-worthy sinks on Pinterest. Like this one…. *swoon*

So, here we go, ladies and gentlemen. We have a lot a lot a lot of work to do. And goodness gracious, we’ve barely just begun. Cue the Carpenters’ music, right?

And then leave us a comment on the biggest project you’ve ever taken on. How did it go and how long did it take? I’m hoping we’ll be back into our kitchen by my birthday…fingers crossed!

2 Thoughts on “A Little Update But a Big Purchase”

  • Very exciting update! Hope it all turns out as you want!
Our biggest project was the renovation of our entire home last year. We had 1 month to finish it all (new ceilings, floors, light fixtures, two new bathrooms, complete kitchen overhaul, all cupboards, paint and cornices!) We had some excellent contractors and a bunch of late nights but honestly, I’d rather take the stress of one month than stretch it out! 🙂

    • Wow! That was a huge project! We worked on some cosmetic fixes when we first moved in, but nothing as big as what it sounds like you did! Congrats on completing it!
